The short version: we count downloads and page views anonymously, so we know which games people play and where they find us. We don't use cookies, we don't store IP addresses, we can't follow you from one day to the next, and our games collect nothing at all. No accounts, no advertising trackers. If you join our waitlist, we keep the email address you give us, only to tell you about our games.
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising scripts. Fonts are served from our own domain; some images are served by Cloudinary, our image host.
What we count
When you open a page or click a download button, our own counter (run on Convex, our backend provider) records:
- the page, or the game, platform and version you downloaded, and which button you used;
- the country you're in (worked out by our hosting provider from your connection; we never see or keep the IP address);
- the website that sent you (for example a search engine or social site) and any campaign tag in the link;
- your kind of device, operating system, browser and language, from the information every browser sends;
- the date and hour.
To count how many different people downloaded or visited each day, the counter combines your IP address and browser with a random value that changes every day, and keeps only the scrambled result. The random value and the scrambled results are deleted the next day, so they can't be used to recognise you later, and the IP address itself is never stored. Individual records are deleted after 90 days; only daily totals are kept.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we don't count your page views at all, and downloads are counted without even the scrambled daily value.
We use these numbers only to understand how our games and this website are doing. We don't sell them, share them with advertisers or combine them with anything else.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many pages are viewed and how quickly they load. It sets no cookies and doesn't use browser storage or fingerprinting to follow you. Your browser sends Cloudflare the page address, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and page-load timings. Cloudflare sees your IP address when it receives this, as any server does, and works out your country from it; it says it doesn't use that data to track you. See its Web Analytics page and privacy policy. With Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control switched on, this script isn't loaded at all.
This site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel may keep short-lived technical server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure, under its own privacy policy. We don't use those logs to identify or profile you.
Our game downloads are hosted on MEGA (mega.nz). When you click a download button you leave this site, and MEGA handles the download under its own privacy policy.
If you join the waitlist
When you join, we store:
- your email address, and your name if you give it;
- the games and platforms you pick;
- the country you joined from (worked out by our hosting provider; we don't keep your IP address), your browser's language, the page you joined from, and the date.
We use this only to email you about access to the games you picked: release dates, playtests, early builds and launches. We don't send newsletters about anything else, we don't sell or share your details, and we don't use them for advertising. You join by ticking the consent box, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
The list is stored with Convex, our backend provider. Only the studio's editors and admins can see it, after signing in. To stop a flood of fake sign-ups, we count sign-up attempts per visitor per day using the same scrambled daily value described above; it's deleted the next day.
Our emails are sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which receives your email address and name (if you gave one) only to deliver them. When you join, we send one email to say you're on the list. After that we email only about the games you picked, for example on release day.
To leave, use the "Leave the waitlist" link at the bottom of any email we send: it deletes your details straight away. To see or correct what we hold about you, or to leave without that link, email glitchandgloomstudios@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. We'll remove you and delete your details. Otherwise we keep them until you leave or we close the waitlist.
Our games
Madam Koi Koi saves your progress and settings locally on your own device. As of version 1.0 it does not collect, transmit or sell any personal data. Clearing the game's application data deletes your saves. See section 5 of the EULA.
When you email us
If you write to glitchandgloomstudios@gmail.com, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. Our email is provided by Google (Gmail), which handles it under its own privacy policy. We use your message only to reply to you, we don't add you to any mailing list, and we don't share it. Ask us at any time and we'll delete your messages.
Children
Our games are recommended for players aged 16 and over, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
