Help with Madam Koi Koi
Installing, saves, performance and the usual problems, with fixes.
Installing
- On the Madam Koi Koi page, choose Download for Windows. It opens MEGA in a new tab.
- On MEGA, choose Download and save
MadamKoiKoi-Setup-1.0.0.exe(128 MB). - Open the file. If Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" box, see the next section.
- Read and accept the licence agreement, choose where to install (it suggests
C:\Program Files\Glitch & Gloom Studios\Madam Koi Koi), and finish. - Start the game from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. It opens in fullscreen; press F11 or Alt + Enter for a window.
"Windows protected your PC"
Windows SmartScreen shows this for programs it hasn't seen many times before, which includes almost every new game from a small studio. To continue, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Only do this for the installer you downloaded through the button on our website. If you got the file anywhere else, delete it.
Saves
- The game saves automatically at checkpoints. Saves on the main menu lets you continue from the last checkpoint.
- Pause with Esc to save into one of three manual slots.
- Saves and settings are stored on your PC in
%APPDATA%\Madam Koi Koi. Paste that into the File Explorer address bar to open the folder. - To back up your saves, copy that folder somewhere safe. Deleting it resets the game, including settings.
Performance
The game picks a graphics level for your PC the first time it runs. If it still stutters, try these in Settings, in order:
- Set Graphics quality to Low or Very low. Real-time shadows switch off below Medium.
- Lower Resolution scale to 75% or less. This makes the biggest difference on laptops.
- Switch Display mode to windowed and pick a smaller resolution.
- Leave Lower graphics when slow on, so the game can step down by itself mid-chase.
- On a laptop, plug it in, and close other programs (especially browsers with many tabs).
If the picture is too dark, raise Brightness in Settings → Picture rather than your monitor's brightness.
Sound
Her footsteps tell you where she is, so sound matters more than in most games. Stereo headphones are best. If you can't hear well or play muted, turn on Subtitles for sounds: the game captions her heels and how close they are.
Uninstalling
Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps in Windows, find Madam Koi Koi, and choose Uninstall. Your saves stay in %APPDATA%\Madam Koi Koi in case you come back. Delete that folder too to remove everything.
Frequently asked questions
Is Madam Koi Koi free?
Yes. It's free to download and play, with no ads and no in-game purchases.
What do I need to play?
A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC and about 400 MB of space. It runs on integrated graphics on the lower quality settings. Headphones help a lot.
Is it on Mac, Linux, consoles or phones?
Not yet. Version 1.0 is for Windows only.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is it safe?
That message appears for new games from small studios whose installers aren't yet code-signed. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway". Only download the installer from the link on this website.
How scary is it?
It's a horror game with jumpscares, sudden loud sounds, flashing lights, references to violence and stylized depictions of dead students. We recommend it for ages 16 and over. Easy difficulty and the reduce-flashing option make it gentler.
How many endings are there?
Two. What you find, and what you do with it, decides which one you get.
Where are my saves?
On your own PC, in %APPDATA%\Madam Koi Koi. The game saves at checkpoints automatically, and you can use three manual save slots from the pause menu.
Can I stream it or make videos?
Yes, including on monetised channels. Reviews and commentary are welcome too. Please don't present the game as your own or share its files. See section 2 of the EULA.
Is Madam Koi Koi a real legend?
Yes. Madam Koi Koi is a well-known urban legend in Nigerian and West African boarding schools. The legend belongs to everyone who grew up hearing it. Our game is our own telling of it.
Does the game collect my data?
No. Version 1.0 doesn't collect, send or sell any personal data. See our privacy policy.
